Jannigan Beck is the exact spitting image of his father: Sean Beck, the most famous explorer in the galaxy. But ever since the elder Beck disappeared on a mission inside an alien wormhole, Jannigan has secretly been masquerading as his father, shaking hands, doing press junkets, and attending meetings.

But when a wealthy trade consortium plans an expedition back into the same mysterious wormhole where Jannigan’s father perished, they demand that Sean Beck personally lead the mission to recover an ancient alien artifact. And they are willing to pay handsomely for his presence.

Now, posing as his father, Jannigan Beck (a complete greenhorn) must command a crew that doesn’t respect him on a perilous mission to the uncharted edge of the galaxy. There he will face alien megafauna, hostile competitors, and a mysterious force with the power to destroy worlds.

Man-about-town Jannigan Beck had no business leading an archaeological expedition through an alien wormhole. After all, he’d always been more at home in an exclusive pleasure emporium than on the bridge of a Barnes LV-900 Lamprey-class scout.

But when Jannigan agreed to lead the ill-fated mission through the Fountain, everything in his life changed.

Now, with the wormhole closed and half his crew gone, Jannigan finds himself hunted by the ruthlessly fanatical Mayir who are hell-bent on recovering an ancient alien artifact with the power to destroy worlds.

The remote frontier moon of Safadin is filled with dense jungles, ancient alien structures, fantastic creatures, and a deadly secret. Not the best place to for Jannigan Beck to crash land. Especially since the moon is now under the control of the tyrannical Mayir.

But Jannigan is just relieved to have escaped from the wormhole known as the Fountain.

Little does he know that his troubles are just beginning…

Joined by the brilliant, but impulsive biologist Kira Lark and a plucky utility bot named TenSix, Jannigan plunges head-on into Saladin’s mysteries, including a secret lab where the Mayir are performing unspeakable experiments…
